For every tonne of CO2 emitted, an EUA must be submitted in the following year. A submitted EUA is permanently withdrawn from the market and cannot be reused.
The submission must be made by 30 April each year and is made via the operator’s registry account.
If fewer EUAs are submitted in one year than CO2 emissions in the previous year, this results in high fines. Every missing allowance not submitted by the end of April will be fined 100 euros. Allowances that can be voluntarily cancelled in the registry account shall not be counted against the quantity to be submitted.
