The allowance management in the EU Emissions Trading System

All installation operators participating in the EU Emissions Trading Scheme are required to open and maintain a registry account in the EU Union Registry.

The registry account is used to manage the emission allowances (European Emission Allowance EUA) allocated to you free of charge or acquired by you. You can use the registry account to sell EUAs to other participants in the EU Emissions Trading Scheme and to surrender EUAs to the German Emissions Trading Authority (DEHSt) for legally required offsetting.

All tasks involved in the management of the registry account are to be performed by persons authorised to act on behalf of DEHSt, who are to be appointed by the installation operator.

The management of the registry account requires the special attention of the authorised persons in order to avoid unnecessary economic disadvantages and severe sanctions for the installation operator.
